This species is placed in subgenus Toxorhynchites. It is the first record of this subgenus in the New World. The fossil is associated with the Cenozoic Planktonic Foraminiferal Zonal Sequence, dated radiometrically at 22.5-26.0 My. However, this is the minimum age of the fossil as it ,was washed into a coastal lagoon from soils beneath resin-producing trees' (Zavortink & Poinar, 2008).
