Genus SALLUMIA Reinert, Harbach & Kitching, 2008

Name-Bearing Type: 

Aedes hortator Dyar & Knab, 1907.

Classification: 

Subfamily Culicinae, tribe Aedini. Sallumia includes only two species.

Distribution: 

Sallumia is a Neotropical genus, with species occurring in countries from Bolivia northward to Trinidad.

Bionomics: 

The immature stages of Sallumia are found in temporary pools (Sl. hortator) and crab holes (Sl. perventor). The females of Sl. hortator are known to attack humans in wooded areas.

Medical and Economic Importance: 

Species of Sallumia are not known to be of medical importance to humans.
