Definition:

The lower area of the mesepisternum. In mosquitoes, separated from the anterior mesanepisternum by the anepisternal cleft; usually united with the posterior mesanepisternum but sometimes separated from it by the mesanapleural suture; united ventrally between the pro- and mesosterna with its mate of the opposite side.
