Definition:

In winged insects, the part of the wing anterior to the vanal fold and distal to the basal fold (sensu Snodgrass, 1935). In winged Diptera, the closely associated, though separate, bases of the subcosta and of the radius basad of the arculus (sensu Lowne, 1890-1892). In mosquitoes and other Diptera, the part of the radius basad of the arculus (restricted sense of Belkin, 1962).
