Definition:

Applied either to a seam produced by the union of two areas of sclerotisation (as used in vertebrate morphology) or to a groove produced incidental to the formation of a strengthening ridge on the inner surface of the cuticle; does not apply to a line of weakness marked neither by a groove externally nor by a ridge internally.
