Definition:

An individual sub-segment of a tarsus. In mosquitoes, five tarsomeres comprise each tarsus; referred to as the first through the fifth tarsomeres of the appropriate tarsus and denoted by adding numerical subscripts (1-5) to the abbreviation of the tarsus.

Synonyms:

For any tarsomere: joint, segment, tarsal joint, tarsal segment, tarsal, tarsus; for the first tarsomere: metatarsus, 1st tarsal joint; for the second tarsomere: first tarsal, 2ond tarsal joint; for the third tarsomere: 3rd tarsal joint; for the fourth tarsomere: 4th tarsal joint; for the fifth tarsomere: 5th tarsal joint; collectively applied to the second through the fifth tarsomeres: foot, tarsus.
