In mosquito pupae, the maximum length of the trumpet measured along a straight line from the point of articulation at the base to the extreme apex. Reinert et al. (1997) defined trumpet length in members of the Anopheles quadrimaculatus complex as the length measured along an angled line from the point of articulation to the extreme apex; the angle occurs on the side of the trumpet opposite the opening of the pinna and is near the level of the base of the pinna where the trumpet begins to expand in size.
